Hi, Doug (I've been wondering were you've been)

Right on. The Scout maintains an 'almanac' so it knows where and what
satellites are overhead (well, above the horizen). It has a display that
gives the direction and altitude (in degrees) of up to eight satellites. It
will track the 6 best signals, switching sats. as required.
BTW, The first time a Scout is turned on it takes 12-15 minutes to download
the almanac. Apparently it only needs to 'see' 1 satellite to do this. I
fiddled around with mine for several hours before it managed to lock three
satellites, (picked a bad time of day I guess, haven't had that much trouble
since) yet it reported a full almanac after about 15 minutes.
Regards, Guy
