Hi, Lanny–
This alkaline granite rich in Zr and REE sounds like it should provide a
number of fluorescent minerals, more than I have heard about to date from WA.
The rare earth elements in particular are likely to figure as activators of
fluorescence, and fluorescent minerals seem to turn up in alkaline igneous
rocks more often than the common high-silica kind. I wonder if the alkalinity
shares a common cause with the increased presence of rare earth elements.
