Glen, NT only limits your file names if your HDs are formated using the MS-DOS compatible FAT file system. NT also has it's own native format called NTFS, I believe it also supports the OS/2 HPFS system. I don't use NT myself so I'm not certain on the file name length but I believe it's the same as OS/2s HPFS. OS/2s HPFS' limit is file names of 254 charactors with any number of 'dots' in the string. As an aside, Windows NT is in no way based on MS-DOS, it's an entirely new OS that has (some) backwards compatability w/ DOS. If you want to be able to use the same HD partitions under DOS and NT you need to use a file system DOS can read. If you have no need to access the partition under DOS reformat & use NTFS. It's a memory mapped file system and is – MUCH – faster. — Bill
