3DLabs Video Board
Hi John.
I've been investigating the Glint Chip for 3D Design Magazine, and what I've
discovered is very interesting. First off, there aren't that many 3D graphics
boards shipping at the moment. Matrox has the Millenia, which has it's own 3D
chip on it. STB, Omnicomp, and Elsa also have boards that are based on the
Glint Chip (along with Fujitsu), but from what I learned today, the Glint Chip
is in a second revision, which has many of these board manufacturers holding
back on actually shipping boards. Accelgraphics has a board that is designed to
accelerate AutoCAD Designer, AutoCAD, and Pro/E and it is based on
Accelgraphics (previously Kubota Graphics) OpenGL technology. That board is
shipping right now.
The most interesting piece of news about the Glint chip is that there are no
drivers to accelerate 3D Studio just yet. And, according to one of the vendors,
those drivers won't be available until the end of the year. Rather grim news
for the 3DS crowd. But once they hit, it will be great.
