Neil,
The 610CT is not a successor for the T2150. The 610CT has no internal CD and
is a 90 MHz Pentium. The 610T is a notebook PC. The T2150CDT is a laptop.

I have a T4900 with the TFT screen. I see no problem under fluorescent light.
In general TFT screens are useless in sun light.
Toshiba only uses a Resume which does not meet your definition. Toshiba Resume
powers down machine but keeps the memory active. In this mode battery depletes
about 15% a day.
