David, I heard recently of a company that was having intermittent problems with the CD-Rs they were making. It was driving them nuts. Turns out that their building was near an airport and under the flight path for landing jets. When a jet was coming in, it created enough vibration that it *could* mess up a CD-R that was being recorded at the time. The severity of the mess up would also vary. Maybe there's something physical like this going on at your site. It affects one of your CD-Rs more than the other. It messes the disks up to varying degrees, which then manifests itself differently on different players. And it's something so common, that for you it's "background noise" so you never think about it. And it's hard for someone on the forum to help you with because it's physical and we're not there.
