The people who I heard the landing jets story from were people that we hired
to help us write an installation manager for our CD. They are CD consultants
and publishing types. They said that this was one of their clients that had
the problem and they ended up spending time at the client's site in order to
figure out what the problem was. They said that they ended up putting the CD-R
on a special surface that dampened all the vibrations and all their recording
problems went away. I have no reason to doubt their veracity.
Computers are uncertain and fickle. To me this story doesn't seem
implausible.
