We've run into problems with the Mitsumi drives and it's really weird. Our
problems seem to crop up when we have a specific amount of data on a disc –
generally between 590-610 Megs.
We pressed three discs Friday, which were almost identical. The first was 595
Meg and the Mitsumi drives (we have several) failed to read it. I then added
some duplicate files to pad the size up to around 630 Meg and re-pressed. This
one worked fine. I then deleted some sacrificable drives from the original
version, so the total was around 540 Meg – worked fine. BTW, all three discs
work perfectly well on all the Sony and NEC drives we have. All are burned on
74 Minute TDK media.
From now on, if we have a disc to burn that's in that range, we're going to pad
it up with some hidden files to get out of that 590-610Meg window of problems.
Dunno if that's a solution for you, but it might be worth a shot.
