Been looking over some of the threads concerning CD Mastering unit for purchase for my own company. In the past I have used a CDD521 { non upgraded } with CDGEN and CDWRITE { dos based versions }. I am wondering if any one has the info on the following questons. The threads come close but still need more info. ONE: Are the 1,500 to 2,000 dollar unit good for backup, audio only cd, Mix mode { data & audio }, Multisession. The number per month is less than 50 disk. TWO: Which is better CD CREATER or GEAR. Or is there a better low cost one. THREE: Do you really need SCSI or will a fast EIDE of <10ms in the 800mb or better range do? I do know about the AV style drive but when I was using the CDD521 I used a 1.3gb SCSI full height hard drive using a pair of 1542 Adaptic controllers. How much buffer {256k/512k/1mb, etc} do you need? Nortons rate the drives I like to use at over 1800kb per second. Do not minded building an immage to burn a disk. FOUR: The system uses will be a P90 with 32mb of ram using a Plato Motherboard. FIVE: What type of ram is use with the drive that can be upgraded? SIX: How are the new Sony new write drive working. Can you read audio data across its data connector. I know the new Sony's 4x EIDE readers can, but was wondering if the new write unit can? Is it possible to buy the drive by its self? I build custom software and computers for people and know my way around different systems. As stated about any info would be nice. Burr Chambless BJ Electronics.
