Andy, That's really neat that you worked with Pre-R1 stuff. We used R1 to put together some of the first PC based military simulations for DOD. We actually had multiple bases with whole rooms full of 4D's sitting idle while the military dev teams crunched together around a couple of 386's. 🙂 Those were the days. I picked up Alias over Kinemation because after extensively demoing both, I listed 30 some different things that I needed to do with the IK that Wavefront couldn't handle but Alias could. As a matter of fact a couple of them still aren't handled effectively by kinemation today, but I understand that Wavefront developed workarounds for a couple of big ones while assisting BOSS on Species. The specific cases are a little too intensive to deal with here on the forum but if you're going to be at Siggraph, I'll be more than glad to hop on one of the workstations at the Alias booth and show you what they are and why Alias excels at dealing with them. An interesting note to this is that because of the way that 3DS is designed and functions I'm 90% sure 3DS could effectively solve the appropriate solutions through scripting. I'm about to start a new project in the coming weeks that involves intensive character work and I'm currently working with 3DS to determine if it will be a more effective tool than Alias for the project. Take Care, Paul P.S. – Let me know if you'll be at Siggraph, I'll be there all week from the 4th to the 11th.
