Sanjay,
<< I am trying to produce a glass effect so that the edges of (eg. the glass
plate) are light green. >>
Go to the Materials Editor and put a your chosen material for the clear glass
into one of the windows. Drag that sample over to another window. Adjust the
second sample so that it has a green color and is less transparent. With the
window that has the green edge material selected use the Put to Current command
in the Material pull-down menu, and name the material something like green
glass edge. Go into the 3D Editor and use the command
Surface/Material/Assign/Object and select the sheet of glass object. Now you
need to assign the more transparent material to the 2 surfaces of the glass.
Use the command Select/Face/Quad and ONLY select the 2 surfaces that are to
have the more transparent glass material. Then all that's left to do is choose
the more transparent material and assign it to the 2 surfaces by using the
command Surface/Material/Assign/Face with the Selected button highlighted.
