Gary –
There are downsides to living next to the ocean. This morning it is pea soup
fog again. I'll drive five miles inland and it will be 20 degrees hotter and
bright sunshine. My perennials always bloom 10 days later than the rest of the
state and the clam flats on a hot day make you want nose plugs.
The upside is all the wild life and the solitude of being in a pine forest on a
tidal estuary but only being 3 miles from Route 95 and 20 minutes on the
interstate to Maine's largest city. This year we have mallards that nested and
had ducklings in the marsh across the creek, two ospreys fishing the estuary
all summer, two nursing racoons with broods of 4 and 3, and the white tail deer
are every where.
Our property taxes are enough to make you get a third job and you have to take
a book to read while waiting to get a traffic opening to get onto Route 1 with
all the tourists. But lobster is down to $3.49 (soft shelled right now) and it
is a great place to live <G>
Make you feel any better?
