>> I wanted to ask which drive yielded the highest sustained throughput, but never got to talk to a tech. Does anybody know? << This addendum from New Media June 1995… a really thorough article (with product reviews) about A/V drives on pp. 43-58: *MEDIA TRANSFER RATE* Micropolis 4221AV 2.0gb 8 minutes 6-10 MB/sec Micropolis 3243AV 4.0gb 16 minutes 6-10 MB/sec Micropolis 1991AV 9.0gb 36 minutes 8-9.6 MB/sec ————— Seagate ST-32550N 2.1gb 8 minutes 6-9??? Seagate ST-15150N 4.3gb 16 minutes 6-9??? There were four Seagates mentioned, not sure of the model numbers. They are the Barracuda 2LP (2.1GB), the Barracuda 4GB( 4.3 GB), the Hawk 4GB (4.3GB), and the Elite 9GB (9.1 GB). Relative times were 6-9, 6-9, 4.2-8, and 5.5-8 MB/sec. In comparison, the best transfer rate was for the IBM Ultrastar (2&4GB), averaging 9-12 MB/sec. Overall, the Micropolis drives were rated slightly above the Seagate drives. Paul S.
