Hi Mark,
I read your reply to Dana about 3DS etc. I have similar experience. I
do I.T. strategic consulting (like Big 6) and some software design development
(VB 3, Access 2, Pwbldr 4, Sybase etc)
I wanted to get into video. I already had AniPro 1.3 & Targa, but last
Dec I retooled to 3DS-R4, PAR, Razor-Pro, TB Monterrey, Photoshop etc. Later I
upgraded to Animator Studio (great in principal, but lousy first release & no
PAR)
Although the learning curve is steep as you say, I did a 30 second
commercial, unsolicited, for a regular DP client, using an animated bulb mixed
with video clips, and the client fell in love with it, and is putting it out on
cable. I charged them $2K which is very low, but I got a great learning curve
boost by doing something I thought I could ultimately sell.
I think you're on the right track. I've been in the 6 figures for the
last 10 years, and I see a convergence of video/audio skills with historical DP
work.
I'd like to stay in touch…..Regards, Martin
