Laurie – the saying here in Maine is if you don't like the weather wait a minute. And it is true! Chicago is having deaths from heat and I'm sitting here in jeans, a cotton shirt and a chaois shirt – and socks. I'm originally from the southern part of the US and grew up in hot, dry summers. Now I live in cool fog and snow and love it. Best time of the year here is fall though. As a quilter I love the mix of colors and textures that fall brings and find myself all year looking forward to fall. But you boaters don't like it – the boats get hauled. We see Steven King around Maine a lot. He's a real down to earth kind of guy, wears jeans and old shirts, drives a old Suburban and always is hauling bunches of kids around to basketball games. Most natives leave him alone but it's hell during tourist season cause everyone wants to talk to him. He lives in a huge old mansion up in Bangor and he had a tall antique iron fence put around it that has bats heads on the posts <G> Tourists frequently ask the way to the town where most of his stories take place – which of course does not exist. I recently reread the long version of "The Stand", his best one for me. Pretty prolific writer. Anne
