I share your concern about the time it takes to render images in SCULPT
3-D. If you only need to preview a scene to check the arrangement of
objects, try the wire frame mode. Otherwise use the smaller image sizes
for previewing ray traced images, they run much faster.
There is a version of SCULPT in beta test that uses the CSA 68020/ 68881
board. It runs from 2 to 15 times faster that a standard Amiga. There
soon should be a version for the Microbotics multi function module.
I am still looking at further optimization of the code. Scenes with
reflective and semi-transparent objects can certainly be rendered faster,
and I am also looking for ways to speed up all rendering. Give me a month
or two and I hope to provide a very substantial speed improvement. Until
then do what I do: compose your scenes with small images, and let the big
pictures be rendered in batch mode while you sleep.
