Dan, Unless something is really amiss somewhere in your 3000 your software (system) clock problem is indeed an 8520 chip. I just went through a similar situation and with the help of Don Curtis and several others I tracked it down to an 8520. I was even sent an 8520 by a forum member who is having mouse troubles and bought one to see if that was the problem. Since he didn't need the 8520 he generously sent the chip to me. As soon as I replace the correct 8520, the one with the TICK signal on it, my system clock got well. I also had a problem with my 2000 not booting unless the keyboard was plugged in, that's not normal. I replaced the other 8520 and sure enough the machine is back in working order again. Those chips are very static sensitive so take care! Keith
