Chris, Operating system licenses are transferable to a new owner, with the CPU only; you can't transfer them to a new CPU that you own. Layered product licenses (e.g. BASIC or whatever) are transferable to a new CPU, within your organization only; you can't transfer them to a different owner… sort of the opposite of the operating system licenses. A very few products that one might think of as "layered" are actually "system-integrated" and follow the operating-system rules, e.g. DECnet. Any of these transfers are supposed to be accomplished via a DEC Software License Redesignation Form, I believe. I'm not 100% certain that a same-owner transfer of a layered product license to a new CPU requires a form, but I think it does. -Bill
