From the sound of your symptoms are you sure you didn't take some sort of
power line spike or lightning hit? When I see things like this, it seems
likely. Similar symptoms can be caused by plugging in or unplugging
printers, modems, joysticks, mice, or keyboards with the power ON. In many
cases this can be confirmed by finding burn marks on the connectors.
