Thankyou for the information. Here is my veiwpoint on the subject. I work
for a company which manufactures flat glass products (windows etc). We
currently have 2 Amigas and are looking at at least one more. These amigas
are used for Desktop publishing (Technical pubs & posters), database
applications and network access to the other Minis/mainframes in the
network. There is a project in progress to install a Novell network with
approximately 20 PCs. NONE of these will be running anything other than
plain-jane vanilla MSDOS. Therefore, using SB4/WINDOWS is out of the
question. As I see it the database needs of these PCs(if there are any)
will be filled by DBASE. Therefore, at least for PC/Amiga database needs,
Direct DBASE access is a must. In addition to the PC-LAN movement here, I
see a long-term trend of a movement to CIM (Computer Integrated
Manufacturing) where there will be multiple databases scattered throughout
the network. In order for stuff to work together they will need to be SQL
compatible. That does not mean that the Amiga needs to be an SQL database
server (although it would be nice) but it does mean that it must be able to
act as a front end to a SQL database. By the way the current network
mechanism is TSSNET(decnet from Syndesis Corp) across Ethernet.
Another item that I really need NOW is training. In this company
DATABASES are seen as user driven. That keeps us programmers out of the
report writing business and into real work. In order for that to be a
reality, I need to be able send a user to a training class or two, let them
be able to learn the package and be able to do most of what they need to
set up and use the database. Would you guys consider setting up some
training stuff at some of the AmigaExpos? I am going to try to get some of
our users out to the next one (on the east coast) for some training. In
order to end on a positive note, I think that Superbase Professional is an
excellent product and I highly recommend it. I feel that it is one of the
easiest databases to use on the market. Thanks again – Ronn Black
