date for implementing that had not yet been established.
Typical bureaucratic nonsense. If they don't know NOW whether or not new
A500s and A2000s will have 2.0, then you can forget Christmas for 2.0,
because the decision needs to be made ASAP for production to get the new
ROMs made in vast quantity, to put them into machines, and to get the
manuals;etc. ready to be in distribution channels for early December(I bet
they have warehouses full of A500s with 1.3 ROMs in them and that they
don't want to have to tear them apart to put 2.0 ROMS and disks in).
Who will want a 2.0 enhancer if new machines are not being made with it and
it breaks a percentage of their software? Some Developers who have their
blind faith unbroken and a few 'gotta have the latest' techies is all.
Under this scenario, it is quite likely that there won't be a market for
2.0 enhancer packages (a few hundred or a thousand would be near the
number) or 2.0 software from third party developers. The number of A3000s
out there does not justify the expense of developing 2.0 software. Only the
promise of hundreds of thousands of machines with 2.0 makes it worthwhile.
It is probably too late to get foreign manufacturers to commit to 100K+
parts for Nov-Dec delivery anyway if they don't have an active production
agreement in hand.
This is new information as Denny's postings only covered the future of the
2.0 enhancer. This information indicates that 2.0 ROMs in new machines is
what is really in danger.
