The Mac had a fixed video mode and only "recently" have the users been able to add color easily. The Amiga is still "stuck" with it's original graphics modes, impressive when it first came out, but dated now (normal "text" looks like CGA on the IBM but with more colors, in fact it looks like viewing VGA text on a Packard Bell VGA monitor!). But the IBM (and clones) have steadily progressed as technology improved, going from MDA (plain mono text) to HGC (Mono with Graphics), CGA (Color graphics), EGA (Enhanced Graphics), VGA, etc. It's now possible to take a $69 card and plug it into an original IBM PC and get 640×480 graphics with 256 colors and a beautiful clean text mode (yes, I KNOW the Amiga Text is really graphics). And you can upgrade an AT compatible to 1024x768x256 for $150 or less, and for a little more, get 800x600x32000! Many times I've wished that Amiga had designed the Amiga with upgradable graphics.
