Victor, Well said. And I, for one, am ashamed at some of the the comments you've had to endure. We're a bit sensitive around here, when non-amiga users, (even earnest, information seeking non-amiga users!) say something innocent enough, that rubs us the wrong way. Maybe it's 'self-hatred' born of our love for a superior hardware system that has been badly abused by its manufacturer, and largely ignored by the rest of the computing world. I would sugest that you not include in your article ('ORPHANED COMPUTERS' or whatever it's called) anything about ANY currently manufactured computer.., did you know that there were about one million Amigas sold in the last twelve months? That's not bas considering that there have been only about 6 – 7 million MACS sold in the last 6 years! In fact, that should tell you something. You might consider writing a sidebar titled something like "Computers Outside The Mainstream" that discusses systems like the Amiga, the ST and the NeXT. That would, I think, make a lot of folks here (including me!) a lot happier. BTW, the libraries here (and on Genie, along with the FredFish disk collection of public domain and shareware programs) represent the majority of software in use on the Amiga (I hope that if you disagree out there folks, you'll add your two cents worth). You see, we Amiga users, for the most part, don't have the luxury of walking in to a local discount computer store to browse through aisle after aisle of software, books, and hardware. We do most of our shopping by mail order. I live in Cleveland, Ohio, where there are really a great number of Amiga users, and yet our only local dealer is also a camera store… and even though he tries his best, and keeps a qualified technician on staff, well, just how much inventory do you think he can afford to keep in stock? The company that manufactures and markets the Amiga does most of its business in Europe, where the Amiga is all the rage. But that market is different than the North American market, and we suffer for that, too. [ MORE ]
