Steve: I have to agree with your sentiments. I've got an A500 that I've upgraded and expanded about as far as is practical. I've wanted to purchase the A3000 for months, but just can't make the decision. The money is there, and has been. I just don't know where the Amiga is going. The Power-Up deal is nowhere near the "great deal" that people think it is. CPU's, harddrives, memory, and monitors have actually come down more in price than Commodore is allowing on the Power-Up. They are actually just dropping the price of the machines (as are ALL platforms) to reflect lower component costs, and market directions. The latest rumors re: not releasing 2.0 for the rest of us just makes me more nervous than ever. The fact that CBM has led developers and the public to believe that it was forthcoming, really reaks of shady business practices. I can't even begin to imagine how many man-hours have been spent developing for this OS. We all like to think that the Amiga is the ONLY platform. Well, I'm sure that lots of us know differently. I use a 486-33 at work with Windows. I prefer the look and feel of the Amiga, but Windows is getting easier to take—–AND no matter what everybody says, it DOES multitask. And it does zip right along on a '486. Top of the line clones such as the one we have at work (Gateway) with 8 megs, 200 meg HD, and non-interlaced 1024 x 768 monitor is actually close to the same price as the A3000-25/100 under the Power-Up and much much cheaper than the Amiga's street price. My inclination is to keep my A500, but to buy a '486. Amigas seem to be standing still while the rest of the industry surges forward. I don't see any changes in sight. George – via Whap!
