Richard,
The 7300's don't have that option (hit a key to boot in single user
mode) so it doesn't apply. You boot in the mode defined in /etc/inittab as
the initdefault value.
Were it as easy as hitting a key on bootup…there'd be no sense
having a password at all as anyone who could get to the machine, could
force it into single user mode and "crack" the machine.
