Ah yes, but what processor and speed did you run? Chances are, that you had
at most a 12 Mhz AT class machine with 1 meg of ram and perhaps an EGA
monitor. I used to have one of those, and for what I paid for it four
years ago, will now buy a 33 Mhz '386 with the best VGA going and several
megs of ram.
As I write this, I'm doing it on a lowly 16 Mhz '386sx with 2 meg of ram
(out of date for two years) with VGA that sells new for about $1,200 with
an 85 meg HD!. Compare that to the price of a bare A2000.
I'm running MS-DOS 4.01 and Desqview '386. In two other windows are two
nodes of my Wildcat! BBS of which someone is logged onto one of them and is
downloading a file at 230 cps, while on the other node, someone is playing
a game. The BBS files are on a 10 Mhz XT about four feet away which acts
as a node and a file server BOTH, running Artisoft's Lantastic Network
using standard $100 Ethernet cards. A two computer network like this for
cards and software runs under $600.
