Brian: Sorry if I offended you by suggesting I would "steal" a resource, no such offense was intended. My goal is to use the hardware, but it won't be connected to a printer, or anything that would be considered a shared resource. I'm not sure from your answer about the printer port, if I can read data back from it (not counting the status bits). About the 38.4, is the speed limit you have observed do to dealing with the port via the operating system? I'm looking for a 'C' compiler capable of producing a commercial product, and willing to pay a reasonable price for it. Thanks for the suggested reading. I'll see about picking up the manuals today.
