I think I've got it! (^_^) I had to disable the 14.4K connection
attempt by setting S37 in such a way that it attempts to connect at 9600.
Then I added AT N0 to my init string to tell the modem to use the S37
setting. It seems to work – I've gotten a consistent connection 3 times at
9600 so far. (^_^)
(Next, I'll test it with the link speed set at 19200.)
