Richard, #1 of 4 Yeah, you are right, WHAT a great communication medium this system is! I can't believe all the responses my messages got!!, and the CD-I and "Byte's new Amiga" were my first messages on the Amiga Forums!. CIS is available in Argentina from over a year. (With customer support offices in Buenos Aires). You may think it's crazy, but I don't know any other CIS member from Argentina! (more on that later). So, as you asked, I will bring you a full Amiga & CIS report for Argentina (& me): CIS: I'm also able to instantly converse with the entire world… BUT AT THE COST OF AN INTERNATIONAL PHONE CALL!! The easiest & cheap (??) way to access CIS from Argentina is connecting to CompuServe Argentina wich is a small system with limited news features for local users. It has an option "Connect to CIS" wich is a gateway to connect to the CompuServe Network. It uses a PDN (Public data network) to make the connection wich is limited to 2400 bauds. Argentine users (me too! aaargh!) are charged $15 (dollars or pesos, they are convertible 1:1) per connection hour, plus $0.03 for each packet sent/received (a packet are 64 bytes each). all that plus the U.S. bill (CIS U.S. connection time + charges…) So you could imagine how accesible is… DOWNLOADING??? What's that?? (My average monthly bill is $200-$250!) (With limited use, not mega-message sending and reading as I am doing now!) I hope that changes in the future and either Infonet or a direct CompuServe node will be installed! The other only "big" information service in Argentina is Delphi. But in this case it is a full-featured local system with all the same layout as Delphi-US (also features a "gateway" option to DELPHI US). Also, DELPHI U.S. users can send directly mail to DELPHI Argentina members (and vice-versa). … continues in next message!
