(continues from prior message) #2 of 4 Now Delphi Argentina has been pushed to the business market, with lots of stock prices, news and economic sections. The Amiga and PC Forums are literally DESERT … the latest file you can find is maybe from January '89. If you want to know, I'm user GENIUS2 in Delphi U.S. (I never acces to it, it's more expensive than accesing CIS!) and user GENIUS in Delphi Argentina. Of course there are a lot of BBS, all of the FIDO network, in Buenos Aires and all major cities of the country (but they are generally at 1200 BPS and with a 286 as a host and limited storage). I'm currently involved in making the FIRST Amiga BBS in Buenos Aires, wich will also incorporate OS/2 sections (also the first!) and DR-DOS (not MS-DOS, since I'm a DR-Maniac!) I think that's all about information services in Argentina. AMIGA: The Amiga situation is a long story: In 1983, as the country returned to democratic rule, commercial activity increased. First, Commodore machines were scarce and at two or three times the U.S. price. A local TV maker obtained the license to make ("assemble" is more appropiated) C64s and disk drives in 1985. The local company did so badly (like distributing GEOS copies & making C64-C machines with black keyboards, instead of white!) that all finished (I supouse, it's a rumour, not oficially said) with a suit from CBM against the local company, wich stopped production and closed the factory. I think that the legal battle is still in process. From 1987 to date, Commodore has no oficial representative in Argentina. Only a few Amiga 1000 machines were sold under the "Drean-Commodore" label, before the legal battle. (That's what I know) Today the situation is: In Buenos Aires there are a few Amiga stores, managed by "gurus" that know it all (but really known nothing!) about the Amiga.
