Dave,
I don't know who at Advanced Storage (the Nexus manufacturer) gave you that
information about the Nexus controller, but according to what they have
told us, the problem is due to their driver. They have admitted to us that
it does not support all of the SCSI direct commands, and they asked us for
a list of the specific SCSI direct commands Quarterback issues. We have
done that, but have yet to hear back from them.
Apparently Ami-Back and the others do not use as many of the SCSI direct
commands as does Quarterback, and the Nexus only supports enough to get
these other programs working. We are in the process of trying to figure
out ourselves what SCSI commands the Nexus does not support (since they
don't seem to want to respond to us), and will be working to apply a
work-around if we can (although it may require a reduction in features
supported when using the Nexus). But the only _correct_ solution though is
to have the Nexus driver fixed.
Note that it is _not_ that Quarterback does not work with tape drives or
SCSI controllers. We have no problems with the A2091, A3000, GVP, Supra,
and other controllers (even the CSA 68040 accellerator/SCSI controller,
which very few programs work with), as these controllers correctly support
the SCSI command set we use.
