Bill, how about trying this instead:
Boot your computer as usual. Then put the WHAP disk in df0: and CD to it.
Then type Whap! and see if it doesn't work.
It is several years now since I used Whap! from a floppy. I did it for a
long time, but I cannot remember exactly what I did. I know that I did
not boot from the Whap disk, since I intensely dislike having to reboot my
machine.
I suspect that if you want to boot from that disk, you should make a copy
of your Workbench disk, remove all of the utilities, tools, fonts, etc,
and then copy the Whap! files to that disk. Then, on THAT disk, place in
your s:startup-sequence (last line) the line that says simply, Whap!. I
think that would work. You would also need a data disk, though. Whap!
and the necessary parts of the Workbench would not leave room for your
downloaded messages. I think I set my path to messages to say WHAPDATA,
and then formatted a disk by that name and kept it in the second drive
while using Whap!.
