Malcolm,
Yes, I think it was CBM who alientated others. By omission or comission . .
. Who knows. CBM has been such an frustrating and confusing entity.
How they could have such a mixed up organization is beyond any of us who
have lived with this situation.
There is no doubt in my mind that if the Amiga had been properly marketed,
by a team who knew what they were doing (and I truly don't know who that
might be – probably Apple, but, who knows. Look what a mess IBM is in. . .
Why hasn't the NeXT machine taken off? Why is the sky Blue?) it would be a
major player.
The computer world is so funny. We have incredibly complicated machines,
which if you look at the overall productivity of corporate America, have
NOT improved things. In many ways, the global picture of computer use
parallels the frustration we have had with the Amiga.
MS DOS machines, MS DOS itself should have resulted in _far_ more than it
has a long time ago.
Anyway, CBM _is_ (was?) a mess from the sophisticated comsumers' point of
view and needs. I don't think that they sat down and said, "Hey let's see
how we can screw up and give ourselves the reputations of being idiots."
But if they _had_ they couldn't have done a better job!
