Vance, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the ultra-high quality image in seaQuest and Babylon V animations a result of dumping the 24-bit image data in digital format, onto an Exabyte tape drive, to be read by a digital recorder? If so, the Toaster's framebuffer & video encoder aren't used at all, and you can't judge the Toaster's output by oohing at TV sci-fi animations. And what's this about the Alpha channel being used for things like sound effects? Alpha channels are used to specify transparency, to anti-alias object edges or provide semi-transparent, network sports-like overlays. Finally, the Toaster was used in the past elections??? Wow! Where? What network? Blaq!
