#Photo CD
Mark,
The original date was 2nd quarter 1992. I spoke to the techie at Kodak
Friday–he was the one that said it was slipping.
To quote from "Together we could make beautiful software.", Kodak's
brochure on their toolkit…
"When you order your Kodak Photo CD Access developer toolkit, you'll
receive a library of C-language functions that 1) read images from the CD
into memory, 2) expand the compressed image files, 3) convert them into
standard formats, and 4) provide basic image-manipulation capabilities.
"You'll also receive full documentation and a sample Photo CD disk
containing professional images, plus a license to use the Photo CD images
in your applications.
"The cost? Only $695(US), checks and major credit cards accepted.
"Call 1 (800) 242-2424 ext 53 today."
If you are a member of Kodak's Developer Program you can get a 10% discount
(I think it's still available). I will find out about this program on
Monday.
I purchased Micrographic's PICTURE PUBLISHER yesterday and have been
playing with my PHOTO-CD all day. Works well! There are five different
resolutions of each photo. First as a thumbnail to be used as an index
(128×192). Two through four work well (256×384, 512×768 and 1024×1536).
The fifth, 2048×3072 took 3 1/2 hours (!) to paint on my 486/33 with 16MB
ram.
My company, Made in USA is a software developer since late 70's. We do
vertical applications. I plan, by the way, to release source code to some
of these programs on CD-ROM. I am very interested in getting into CD-ROM
business. Reason I am hot on PHOTO-CD is that I have 30+ years of high
quality 35mm photos taken all over the world. Want to publish those also.
What business are you in?
Regards
Jan
