Brian, There is a non-linear system now available for the Amiga from a company in Australia, a set-up is due to be delivered to a local Video company here in Auckland this month. I have passed on some details to a couple of people here on the Amiga Forum. They had a demo setup at the WOC show in Sydney Well, just went and phoned the local company for some info, The system costs NZD 110,000 to NZD 200,000 . The system they are getting is costing about NZD 140,000 and includes 3 A4000's/ OpalVision/and a total of 14Gb hard-drive storage for the video. This gives 112 min of video at a compression of 6-1. They will change the Opalvision to a "DFS500 Sony" board. (I dont know what this means). The system works in realtime in that 60 mins of video on tape will take that long to load to disk. But they expext to be able to reduce the editing time from 2-3 days down to 1 days work. The software is failsafe in that they will be able to switch off any of the 7-8 HD's or 1 of the Amiga's if faulty, while work is in progress and the system will recognise this and swith over to the other available HD's/Amigas. He mentioned that there is a separate controller for the A4000's. There has been a delay inthe instilation due to a new faster HD becoming available, so they expect to start recieving the hardware on 01/Feb/94 and will have the system up and running in a few days. Their current system is based on Amigas and is used for production of Christian broadcast TV/videos for Tonga/Samoa/Africa/Europe and some to the USA.
