Marc,
Your not reading everything in this thread. Your plan to write a
works program has been done. MSS has 'The Works Platinum out already.
Cost $99.00 or less. It has 5 programs a WP, SSHEET, Dbase, Comm term and
a Print sideways program. That $20.00 a program; or $25 if you don't want
the sideways printing. You can't do better then that with shareware. They
all talk to each other using the Clipboard so that you export to other
programs.
A point to keep in mind about down and dirty programs:
People in this tread have already bad mouthed The Works set as lacking.
They then site a more elaborate program as the replacement for the module
they dislike. We see the same thing in a thread about Notebook, a $25
package by Blackbelt that is a nice thing to have. Now people what more.
This is the way with all software. Auto CAD started out small, cheap and
adequate, but look at it now. If you use Arexx ports in a program, it is
expanded easily; and not only by you.
If you want to program and give the Amiga things she needs there
are still other type programs needed. Try the business world. We need a
Point of Sale program. We need a better accounting program. We need a
Forms Generator.<–(I would put a high priority on this one) A cheap light
pen reader. A laser font downloader. A fast sheet music printing program.
If people would get back on the topic you might have a large number of
program types that you could work on.
The big thing is that you have to get WB2.0 before starting your
project. If it isn't compatible your taking a step backward. What
language are you planning to write in? It's too bad you live way up in
JACKSON, WY. I'm down here in Casper and have similar ideas about filling
some of the software gaps. I have been following this hoping to get an
idea or two, but people are stingy with there needs.
