Stan, it's pretty tough to figure out exactly what's going on here without knowing more about your config.sys and autoexec.bat files. You mentioned that you made sure Windows hadn't changed them, but I think you still ought to let us take a look at them to make sure something weird isn't going on in there. Try that AFTER you try re-installing the program from the master disks… It's possible that during the hard-disk switchover, some of the data got corrupted. Could it be an incompatibility problem with the controller? It _could_ be, but it's pretty hard to say. Is your new IDE controller a multifunction version with serial and parallel ports? I've seen some compatibility problems with these kind of IDE's. The only way you can get the answer to _that_ question is to swap it out with another controller. – G
