Shraddhan I've only just picked up this thread, but I have heard various stories about VCR backup systems. The problem is that VHS quality is often very poor, with lots of tape dropouts (that you don't see, because of the dropout compensation) … as has already been said, a single bit lost in data is one bit too many. Personally, I would'nt trust valuable data to a system that relied on a domestic video machine. I might consider it with a Betamax machine, or an S-VHS .. but not with conventional VHS. I know that there is at least one relatively cheap tape streamer available in the UK … Tim Arnot (editor of the ICPUG journal) has one, and uses it to do HD backups.
