Regarding one nice monitor for all Amiga needs – they do exist. At GVP, we
have a couple of Sony 1311Q monitors. They're FANTASTIC for us because not
only do they handle 15.75KHz, and everything up to 1024×768 noninterlaced (and
maybe more, haven't tried, though), they have built in speakers, AND separate
composite and S-video inputs AND pass-thru. The tube quality is wonderful too,
of course. .25mm I believe.
The new Commodore 1942 sounds pretty decent, too, and pretty inexpensive.
One thing I'm not clear on is why "multisync" monitor vendors took out support
for 15.75KHz. I'm not a hardware guy, but while that probably lowered cost, it
couldn't have done so by much, surely?
As for your concern about compatibility with old modes, that will still work if
you have a FlickerFixer, 2320, or IV24, since they passively deinterlace the
Amiga video output.
