Dom; Yon can remove the chip by removing the motherboard from the machine and pushing the chip out through the holes in the bottom of the motherboard. There are two holes that go through both the motherboard and the socket. This is the way that I installed the first MagAChip that I bought. I don't know the answer to your other question but suspect that it depends upon which version of the MegAChip you have. -bill
