Hi Mike, Indeed the CGW article was, for the most part, positive… BUT… it was filled with several errors and incorrect assumptions, like the statement that Amiga 24bit graphics boards tend to run in the $1,000 range for the cheap solution. Last time I checked retina boards could be had for $500 and the Opalvision main board was down to $700. I was also shocked to see the comment that the amiga could not capture video in real time, which is exactly what the DPS PAR board can do. I was happy to see mention of ASDG but there are two other top flight image manipulation companies on the Amiga that were left out of the article and the info box on top Amiga companies; Black Belt Systems and GVP. Further if you look in the vendor box you will notice that Byte by Byte is listed!!!! What a joke! It would have been nice to see some mention of the new software releases, Imagine 3.0, Lightwave 3.0, Real 3D 2.0, and some add ons like Interchange Plus 3.0… But then I guess I am throwing too much at a writer who clearly was trying to take an objective view of the machine. All in all I was happy to finally see the Amiga featured in CGW, after reading the issue I quickly sent my renewal form back. BTW: did you read the article on the SGI reality Engine ? Incredible… Just need a $100k…. 🙂
