Please remember that actually sharing a Harddrive is DANGEROUS to your data on that drive! I too have 2 machines hooked together via SCSI, my Amiga, and a 486 running NEXTSTEP 3.1, and I don't actually share any harddrives, but rather I share my CDROM, Tape, and SyQuest drives. By share, I never access either the tape or syquest drives from more than one machine at a time, as that could end up screwing up data. The CDROM is a different story, as it's a read only device, there's no chance of messing up data, and I've had the drive mounted on both machines at the same time, had shells open on both machines in the same directory on the CDROM, and did a directory of the drive at the same time from both machines (I use the ls command on both the Amiga & NEXTSTEP machines). I did it mostly to see if it could be done, and it can, both machines get their directories up in about the same amount of time. I'm assuming that the drive actually does 2 read operations to the CDROM, but it might be possible that it's only reading the data once, and sending the data over the SCSI bus, and both machines are reading the same data, but I'm not sure if this is what's happening or not. // -Mike Schiller \X/ AMIGA!
