There is a strong possibility that I will move to Scotland (near Glasgow) for an extended length of time. I'm interested in recommendations, suggestions etc. as to what I should do with my current system. I have an Amiga 2000 with DOS 2.1, a Sony CPD-1302 multiscan monitor, a Deskjet 500 printer, an Anchor 2400E modem, and I log on to CIS. 1. Can the Amiga 2000 be used in Scotland on their 220V/50Hz power source? If so, is this via a 220V –> 120 V inverter, a UPS (uninterruptible power supply), or is there something else needed or preferred? Will the 50Hz frequency cause any problems? 2. Ditto for the other AC devices — Sony CPD-1302 monitor and Deskjet 500. Can they be used on the 220V/50Hz line (inverter, UPS, or otherwise)? I will be returning to the States sooner or later, so I'd prefer to get/use as much as possible that can be brought back here. 3. Or, is it better to switch to an AGA unit (i.e. 1200 or 4000)? If so, can it be a US unit that I bring over, or would I essentially need to get a PAL/220V/50Hz unit? 4. If the Sony CPD-1302 monitor works, can it also be used with the PAL mode? That is, if I do obtain a UK 1200/4000, can I use my Sony 1302 with it, or will I also require a new monitor? 5. a. Will my Anchor modem be usable and legal in Scotland? If not, what can be recommended, and what will it cost? b. Can I maintain my current CIS ID/account? If so, what will be Scotland's CIS and telephone rates versus the US (i.e. am I going to lose my shirt???). c. Can I instead call using the AT+T DIRECT line, and would this save money? And are there any recommended Amiga dealers in or near Scotland's Glasgow/Clydebank area? –apl
