Michael,
Do you get the problem when you try this in a stripped or "vanilla"
environment? That means in your CONFIG.SYS load only the line files=40 and
buffers=20, and in your AUTOEXEC.BAT only have the statments Prompt, path and
mouse. NO memory managers, device drivers, TSRs video drivers, etc.
Doesit still happen in this vanilla configuration?
