George, I cannot give you any advice from here as there are many possible causes for your problems. I need to know what scsi controller you're using. Maybe it's enough to replace the ROMs of your controller. Or you could simply use another backup software. Maybe you should try the demo of Diavolo Backup, available in Lib 9, Disk Tools.
