"The way it is used is you fire up the Time code program that comes with MediaEditor and stripe the SMPTE onto the PCM Audio track with audio dub." The description of TCgen in the IMS catalog states that it is used to put SMPTE timecode onto a _linear_ audio track. I was under the impression that PCM tracks (like AFM tracks) are helical; Also, PCM is digitally-compressed, and may make a digital sound-code like SMPTE imperfect due to PCM's "lossy" compression. For instance, if you wanted to store digital information in a picture file, saving it as a GIF or IFF (lossless compression) would keep the data perfect; But saving it as JPEG (lossy compression) would alter some of the data. The same thing may be going on with SMPTE data in the PCM tracks… Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also, in case you forgot, the SMPTE timecode dubbing is not frame accurate unless you are genlocked to the tape's video signal during the dub. This means using an Amiga genlock (except the Toaster's, which won't work) accepting the video-out from your EVS3000 (with the genlock "enabled" if your genlock requires that step) while TCgen is outputing SMPTE. -Chris
