The remaining crust came apart and between the americas and the euro-african coasts and drifted towards the gaps leaving islands in their wakes. The continents can all be fitted back together almost perfectly. >>How does one explain the paleomagnetic record without plate tectonics<< The pieces moved in arcs making for what now seams like a jumbled record and the earth being pulled up out of orbit was flipped over by the gyroscopic effect making North on the "Top" now. >> How is it the "passing star" got close enough to rip off part of the Earth but did not take some of the other planets out of the ecliptic plane and the relative regularity of their orbits<< The oceans of mars were ripped away to possibly become the rings of Saturn and jupiter as well as comets, uranus was pulled into a very strange axial alinement, there possibly was a large planted that was destroyed to become the asteroid belt and who's core may be Pluto and companion. I believe the orbital plan of pluto may be a clue to the trajectory of the interloper. Any circular shape on the moon can only be from impacts. During the time of the passing there was a long period of low gravity and also thousands of chunks of water, mud and crust that impacted the earth and the moon slowly accounting for all the shallow craters. The impact theory could be the cause of most or all of this but I like the the star passage theory because the same type of passage could have extruded the planets from the sun.
