you have to be very careful in this area. While the company may be
defunct, the copyright, or in some cases patent, can still be operative on
a piece of software. If they are operative, you are violating the law by
passing a copy to someone else. While the company itself may not be
around to detect and to prosecute such a violation, they can, at any
point, sell the rights to the software, and the new owner may be willing
to prosecute.
Distinctly not a healthy idea, financially, doing such in a public
arena, IMHO.
