I have a Gateway 2000 P5-66 system with all the goodies(16 MB,540 HD,Viper PCI…) and 3D Studio Rel.3. The software was purchased on June of 94 but two months ago I tried rendering my first large 3D animation. It is a 300 frame long flic. IT WILL NOT RENDER!!! The program bombs displaying "ABNORMAL PROGRAM TERMINATION" followed in different occasions by various messages like "PAGE FAULT", "ILLEGAL INSTRUCTION" or "MEMORY PROTECTION FAULT" all of them followed by an address. The machine is not doing any disk swap (not a complicated FLIC), I have cleaned my system as instructed by the guys at Autodesk. I have tried it EVERYTHING: * Ran with the clean environment. * Took out all cards except video. * Changed video card. * Replaced all RAM (16 mb). * Put in more RAM(24 mb). * Modified and tried with every possible combination found in my CMOS setup. * Ran QA Plus diagnostics software without it reporting any faults in any part of the machine. * Removed my hard disk, installed it on a 486/DX66, booted from it and the flic rendered with no problems. It is because of this last "test" that Autodesk suggested that it is a hardware problem and that I consult with Gateway; Sounds logical but considering the large amount of Gateway-Pentium/3D Studio users out there I would REALLY appreciate ANY advice or knowledge of a similar situation. Gateway has no knowledge of problems of that sort and do not know the software well enough to help me. I am between two giants who are playing pinball with me. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my first time using Compuserve so if this ends up where it shouldnt be please accept my apologies. Thanks.
